Assalamu alaikum warahmatuLlah wabaratuHu!
Eid Mubarak folks! TaqabalaLlahu minna wa minkum ❤
I hope you all had a blessed and halal Eid 😉😉
P. S – Don’t forget to fast your 6 days of Shawwal.
Abū Ayyūb Al-Ansārī radhiyallāhu ‘anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said,
“If anyone keeps the fasts of Ramaḍān and follows them up with six fasts in Shawwāl, then it is like a year’s fasting.” (Muslim)
For those who missed some fasts during Ramadan, according to the scholars, it is compulsory to make up the missed fasts before fasting the six days of Shawwal to correctly follow the hadith of the Prophet (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam)
And Allah knows best.
Soooo, I got an amazing cookbook to review and I have to say this, I had tons of fun reading and discovering delightful recipes. Yum !😋😋 😋
Okay, so I present to you, the first of its kind *drum rolls*
This cookbook was written by M.K Johnston, an American-born revert to Islam and published by Djarabi Kitabs Publishing .
The book is divided mainly into two parts – the first part giving a very thorough explanation on what an halal diet entails( from learning what “halal ” really means to knowing what to look for to make sure one eats halal ) & the second part is the recipe section which is well organized into Breakfast,Beverages, Appetizers & Starters, Breads, Entrees and finally the Desserts (my favourite part, lol)
The recipes have a simple layout and format that makes the ingredients and cooking instructions well organized and easy to follow.
Some of the recipes you will find include:
• Halal Breakfast Sausage
•Lasagna with Halal Italian Sausage
•Baked Mac & Cheese
•Biscuits & Gravy
•Red Beans & Rice
•Halal Marshmallow Treats
•Chocolate Chip Cookies
and much, much more!
Although, it doesn’t include an Ingredients chapter, it has a well structured index and the recipes are properly cross-referenced.
As wonderful as this book is, I felt the photos weren’t enough as a cookbook should have but I loved the photos inserted anyway !
The book ended with an amazing interview with the author & some scrumptious Ramadan recipes , Yum!
To be honest, what really caught my fancy about this book was the title. Maybe it’s because of where I’m from but before this, I had never heard of a Muslim cookbook (that was according to the Sunnah).
So this comes as a breath of fresh air and I’d recommend this book both for new Muslims (who the author had in mind when writing this book) and old Muslims (who will definitely learn and benefit a lot)
You can get yours today from Amazon or @fofkys ! 😊
P.S – if you like free things like me, just keep an eye out for the Goodreads giveaway that starts on June 26th,2017 and ends on July 26th,2017.
P. P. S – When you try out the recipes, please let me know about it on my Instagram page because at the moment, all I can do is make myself hungry by re-reading the cookbook and drooling at the pictures 😍(because school 😢)
How I feel right now after rereading & reviewing 😮
